CHERY SOUTH AFRICA’S TIGGO CSH HYBRID LINEUP SETS NEW BENCHMARKS FOR EFFICIENCY AND VERSATILITY IN LONG-DISTANCE ENDURANCE TESTING
Following the launch of the new Tiggo Cross CSH Hybrid and Tiggo 7 CSH Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), Chery South Africa recently embarked on an ambitious road trip to showcase the efficiency and real-world capabilities of its latest hybrid models. The endurance test yielded impressive results, with the Tiggo 7 CSH PHEV achieving a combined range of 1,290 km, surpassing its official 1,200 km. Powered by the marque’s advanced CSH (Chery Super Hybrid Technology), the Tiggo 7 PHEV integrates the fifth-generation ACTECO 1.5 TGDI dedicated hybrid engine to a stepless Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT), and a high-performance hybrid battery. This system offers consumers a comprehensive solution that integrates urban commuting and long-distance travel, all in one vehicle. At the same time, the hybrid Tiggo 9 CSH — due to be released in South Africa later this month - achieved an impressive 1,374 km on a single tank of fuel, exceeding its WLTC-estimated range of 1,050 km. This sets a new benchmark for extended range among seven-seater family SUVs. “These results reinforce our belief that hybrid technology can deliver more than just efficiency; it can redefine what South Africans expect from family vehicles,” said Verene Petersen, National Brand & Marketing Manager at Chery South Africa. “With the new Tiggo CSH range, we’re offering drivers a smart, capable, and highly adaptable solution that meets the realities of modern mobility, whether you’re commuting in the city or crossing provinces.” 93 km pure electric range — effortless daily commutes At the heart of the Tiggo 7 CSH’s powertrain is the highly efficient 1.5TGDI dedicated hybrid engine, delivering a robust 115 kW of maximum power and 220 N.m of peak torque. This translates into strong real-world performance that drivers can feel, whether accelerating from a standstill at traffic lights, changing lanes at highway speeds, or overtaking in urban traffic. The system ensures instant power on demand, always keeping you one step ahead. The DHT works seamlessly with the engine, utilising a dual-motor system that delivers combined outputs of up to 265 kW and 530 Nm of torque. For urban commuting, the hybrid battery offers over 90 km of electric range, which is sufficient for most daily driving needs. When it’s time to recharge, the DC fast-charging capability recharges the battery from 30-80% in approximately 19 minutes — about the time needed for a coffee break. 4.9L/100 km fuel efficiency: Worry-free long journeys The Tiggo 7 CSH’s engine boasts a thermal efficiency of 44.5%, while its DHT achieves a mechanical efficiency of up to 98%. This delivers an exceptional driving experience and outstanding fuel efficiency. In charge-depleting mode, fuel consumption drops to as low as 4.9L/100 km, significantly reducing the overall cost of ownership for consumers. The range of 1,200 km eliminates range anxiety on long-distance trips, while reducing the need for frequent refuelling - making every journey more convenient and worry-free. 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load capability — enhanced outdoor adventures Catering to the growing popularity of camping and outdoor lifestyles, the Tiggo 7 CSH boasts a 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load capability, effectively eliminating the need for additional portable power stations. With most household appliances operating below 2.5 kW, intelligent power management unlocks endless possibilities for outdoor living. The Tiggo 7 CSH keeps your devices powered on the go, letting you stay connected and share adventures while immersed in nature’s beauty.
